The Dallas/Fort
Worth commercial real estate community turned out on December
5, 2002 for the second annual Karens Deal cancer awareness
fundraiser and holiday party held at Sipango on Travis Street.
Several hundred
people crowded Sipango, and a large number of donations and sponsorships
were made. Results are currently $69,125 with donations arriving
daily.
Karens
Deal was established in 2001 to honor Karen McCulley, an executive
vice president with The Weitzman Group, and her continuing impact
on the retail real estate market, as well as to recognize her
personal struggle with cancer and to raise money to fund support
and treatment of cancer patients. The event benefited the Common
Cares Cancer Foundation, an organization selected by McCulley
to be the beneficiary of the new foundation.
Karens
Deal is supported by essentially all of the major retail real
estate players in the Dallas/Forth Worth area. In 2001, more than
800 people attended the Karens Deal event, which raised
approximately $150,000 for the Karens Deal foundation and
Common Cares Support Center. The event is fast becoming the major
holiday event for the commercial real estate industry in DFW.
Karen
gives so much to all of us this is our opportunity to honor
her and join her goals to help cancer patients meet their challenges.
Karen is a major force in our industry, and she will be for a
long time to come. Our plan is for her foundation to become a
rallying point for our industry and a major force of its own for
years to come. Karen is woven into so many aspects of our business
as a leader, a friend and an inspiration, said Steven A. Lieberman,
president of The Weitzman Group.
Steve Lieberman,
Tim Hughes, principal of Falcon Companies, and Scott K. Muller,
senior vice president with Lincoln Property Company, along with
a group of Karens peers and close friends, have been instrumental
in the formation of the foundation and enlisting industry support.
