"The communities, both military and Okinawan, have provided
contributions that will be given to a multicultural organization
to provide services and research in the area of breast cancer,"
Vaughn-Wiles said.
The
money was donated to the Common Cares Cancer Foundation to further
research and development.
"Breast
cancer prevention can truly be a success story if we get the funding
and support to do the early diagnoses and treatment," said
Navy Capt. Clinton F. Faison III, group surgeon, Headquarters
Company, Headquarters and Service Battalion, 3rd Force Service
Support Group.
"Public
awareness and funding through events like this are what lead to
cures," said Faison. "I was especially impressed by
the involvement of the Okinawan people in this event. I am in
awe at the cooperation and friendship that I see on a continual
basis at events like this where people from extremely different
and diverse backgrounds comes together for a common goal of eradicating
breast cancer."
